NumNum Dips Review

NumNum GOOtensil Review + video! This is the perfect utensil for babies to use before they master the spoon! Gracefulmommy.com

Gracie is 9 months old, and lately she has been showing an interest of feeding herself! She doesn’t love when I feed her anymore + she is constantly trying to grab the spoon from me. So, I let her try to feed herself with a regular spoon and it actually frustrated her even more! She couldn’t quite master the whole spinning the wrist movement of the spoon. That’s why I absolutely love the NumNum GOOtensils. These are the perfect utensils for baby because it allows them to feed themselves before they have mastered the wrist rotation required for a spoon.

A normal spoon requires a lot of advanced movement (even though it seems simple). The hardest part for babies to master is the wrist rotation. The problem is, wrist rotation takes up to a year (or more) for babies to master which leads to frustration- for parent and baby!

That is why NumNums were created. The NumNum was created with a certified speech and language pathologist and a feeding specialist. She knew from experience and science that, developmentally, dipping comes before scooping. Dipping comes first for babies because they don’t need wrist rotation to dip!

Your baby is ready for a NumNum GOOtensil if they can sit up on their own, bring teethers to mouth, and expresses an interest in self-feeding.I knew when I started noticing Gracie getting frustrated with me feeding her, it was time to introduce the NumNum. She was totally showing an interest in feeding herself. (Sad moment for mom!!!!)

The NumNum GOOtensils are designed for purees and other blended foods. The NumNum is way easier to use than a spoon because the head is flat- there is no wrong way to hold it! You just dip and eat! These are also a great way to get baby ready for a spoon. While baby dips with the NumNum they are actually practicing that wrist rotation. It’s the perfect way to practice because Gracie won’t get frustrated!

P.S. Expect some mess! Kids are kids 🙂 Plus, haven’t you heard of sensory play? It’s good for baby to get a little messy. And Don’t rush it! Give baby plenty of time to practice and stop when he or she gets frustrated or full!

It took a few tries for Gracie to figure out the NumNum. But we had a ton of fun practicing! And now, she’s pretty much a master NumNum user. When you buy your NumNums GOOtensils they come in a pack of 2. An orange one and a blue one. The blue one is designed to hold thinner purees and the orange one is designed to hold thicker purees. We gave Gracie both NumNums just so she had more options to use. In the video and pictures Gracie is eating yogurt and a mix of apricot, peas, and peaches. She had so much fun eating by herself for the first time! She made quite a mess, but it was a blast.

If you’ve been following some of Gracie’s monthly updates you know that I love making Gracie’s food at home! We have the Baby Brezza machine which we LOVE, but I’ve been having a hard time finding the perfect way to store the baby food! We had tried the individual freezer cups that fit into an ice tray, but we hated them. They never closed right and took so long to get the frozen food out of each cup. So.. I’ve been trying to find the perfect way to store the food and I’ve finally found it!!!

This perfect food storage is called the SiliZoo Baby Food Freezer Tray! It’s seriously awesome.

The SiliZoo tray allows you to store 7 portions of baby food. Sometimes I’ll store all of the same type of food and sometimes I mix it up! The tray is made out of a really durable silicone that is FDA approved. There are no BPA, phthalates, allergens or toxins in the tray. So it’s totally safe!

The tray is freezer safe, oven save, microwave safe, and dishwasher safe! That’s incredible. It also comes with a lid that is super easy to get on but it clicks tight around the edges so you know the food is staying fresh. This is one of my favorite parts. The old cups we used to use to store food also had lids but the lids never stayed on when they got cold in the freezer. With the SiliZoo tray, the lid locks in place! I love it. It’s also super easy to get off, though!

One of my favorite parts of the SiliZoo is how easy it is to get the food out! The non-stick silicone allows you to just pinch the bottom of the tray and pop out the food cube. It’s really that easy. Just pinch the bottom of one of the food portions and it just slides out! Remember, the tray is also microwavable so if you need to pop it in the microwave to defrost the food, you can do that too! Gracie usually only eats one serving at a time, so I always just pop out one and defrost it by itself.

You know what else this tray is used for? Literally anything. Here is a great list of other ways to use your SiliZoo:

+Freeze portions of breast milk

+Freeze sauces

+Make ice pops

+Bake cupcakes or muffins

+Use it as a snack tray for toddlers

+Ice tray

+Put different color paint in it for an easy painting craft!

+Use it as a bead organizer for a teen girl

Seriously, the possibilities are endless. I would love to see how you use your SiliZoo!

The only bad thing about this tray is that one is not enough! I think I’ll need about 5 of these because they are that useful!
