DIY OPEN SHELVING KITCHEN RENOVATION

Ahhh! I am so excited to be writing this post! We recently finished our DIY kitchen renovation + I’m ready to share it all with you. It was a crazy project, because we didn’t really expect to renovate, it just sort of happened! We first just were planning on painting our backsplash, but then that led to a whole bunch of things, LOL! So here’s a look at our kitchen renovation.

DIY OPEN SHELVING KITCHEN RENOVATION

Like I mentioned, we actually PAINTED our kitchen backsplash. Can you believe it?! It was actually pretty simple. We used Homax White Tough as Tile and used both a brush and roller to paint it on. This stuff is awesome, but you HAVE TO READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. There are a LOT of important cleaning steps involved. Not hard, just tedious.

So we cleaned the backsplash (definitely was the cleanest it’s ever been). Then we prepped the area by removing the outlet plates, and taping around everything we didn’t want paint on. We didn’t have drop cloths, so we used garbage bags to cover our granite.

The crazy thing about the Homax White Tough as Tile paint is that you have to wait 3 hours in between coats, and not longer than 6 hours. So it’s definitely a project you need to plan out. We ended up needing 3 coats so it felt like it took all day… well it did take all day LOL. Another tricky thing about the paint is that it’s a very drying paint. So you have to work quickly while you paint. I used the paintbrush and did the top and bottom of the backsplash and the grout lines, and Dave did the roller right behind me. You can’t go back over things you already painted, either – so you have to be careful the first time.

So anyways, we painted the backsplash + loved it!! But as we stepped back, we realized that the backsplash looked SO good and it started to make the top cabinets look… well, old? Or yellow? We weren’t too sure, but it made us want to rip out the upper cabinets and replace it with some modern open shelving! So that was the next step!

DIY OPEN SHELVING KITCHEN RENOVATION

We ripped out a few of the upper cabinets + started working on the open shelves! We bought 2in. x 12in x 10ft. #2 prime kiln dried southern yellow pine lumber from Home Depot. It was only $13 per board + we only needed 2!

The boards were perfect, but they were a little ROUGH around the edges, if you know what I mean. So we sanded the boards first. Then we white washed the boards with a mixture of one part white chalk paint, and 3 parts water. We brushed it on and immediately wiped it off.

Then we sanded the boards again, and added 2 layers of Minwax Gloss Water-Based Polyurethane.

Before hanging up the shelves, we put in all new handles on the kitchen cabinets that were left. We got this set from amazon + absolutely LOVE them!!

We also painted the wall where the upper cabinets were.

Then we measured and hung up the L brackets. We got ours here.

We cut the wood boards to size and drilled them into the brackets. Gah… I love them so much!

My favorite part was the decorating! I’m so happy to have open shelving because not only does it totally upgrade our kitchen, now I can update them whenever I want! I can’t wait to style them for Christmas!

How to make your teeth shine with Gleem!

How to make your teeth shine with GLEEM

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of GLEEM. All opinions are 100% mine.

Headline: How to make your teeth shine with GLEEM

So with all of this going on… I’m finding myself with a LOT more free time at home. It’s overwhelming at first to find things to do at home all day (especially with 2 kids who love to be out and about), but because I know it’s necessary – I am embracing this time. One way to embrace the extra time spent at home is to practice a bit more self-care!

One way I’m choosing to add more self-care into my daily routine is with the amazing new GLEEM products! Watch out, because after this quarantine is over my teeth are going to be so shiny and white!

So, let me tell you about the GLEEM products!

Most rechargeable toothbrushes are expensive and HUGE eye-sores in the bathroom. You know I’m all about the aesthetics, so I LOVE the sleek, timeless design of GLEEM’s toothbrush! Not to mention it’s an awesome price!

The GLEEM rechargeable Electric toothbrush is designed to make your smile shine. I love that it has two brushing modes – the Classic Clean and the GLEEM Clean for when you need a little extra power. The toothbrush is actually surprisingly quiet, too!

My teeth really do feel super shiny after brushing with GLEEM.

Another GLEEM product I’m SOOO happy with is the GLEEM one week professional teeth whitening kit with the LED light! With this light kit + the booster strips, you will see results in just 3 days and pro-level whitening in just 7 days!

You apply the strips once a day for 60 minutes (we all have an extra 60 minutes these days, right?) and then you just add the GLEEM LED light for the last 5 minutes of treatment. I actually really look forward to those last 5 minutes. The light is SO fun to use and I know it’s specifically targeting the yellow stains! My teeth look SOO white after using this.

I haven’t felt any sort of sensitivity, which is great!

You really need to try the GLEEM products, especially the rechargeable toothbrush and the Whitening Kit! You can find these online at Walmart .

I tried Whole30® and here’s how it went!

I tried Whole30® and here’s how it went!

The holiday season is over (how did that happen so fast?!). And it’s pretty cliche to start a new health challenge or fitness routine, but there is something about a new year that makes you want to reset and start something new. I wanted to share my experience with the Whole30® program and how using Ball® mason jars makes my experience even better!

I tried Whole30® and here’s how it went!

The Whole30® program is a great way to reset and help you clean up some eating habits. What you do is cut out certain foods like dairy, sugar, grains, legumes, and alcohol. The things you can eat include: meat, poultry, fish, veggies, fruits, and fats (yay avocados!).

I started the Whole30® this month and I’m already loving it! I didn’t do it to lose weight, but rather get my energy levels up and have more effective workouts and improved sleep. I love that this diet is not a typical diet of counting calories and doing a point system. It’s not really a diet at all. It’s more about discovering amazing meals and recipes with whole foods.

I tried Whole30® and here’s how it went!

I love making recipes on Whole30®. The best way to do the Whole30® is with a bunch of Ball® Mason jars. I love the Ball® jars for literally everything. We use them as drinking glasses, for food storage, and even toy storage every now and then. But my favorite way to use the Ball® jars is for my Whole30® recipes. When you are running out the door or heading on a picnic with the kids (my life every day, LOL!), a Whole30® recipe in a Ball® jar is my GO-TO. Ball® Jars are available at Walmart, too! Plus I love that they come in tons of different sizes, perfect for any recipe. They are also earth-friendly, versatile, and durable (not to mention, stylish!). You can actually earn $1 off any 4pk or 12pk of Ball® jars with ibotta!

Salads are a great Whole30® recipe to throw in the Ball® jars. A great tip is to put the dressing in first, and then layer the salad ingredients on top so everything stays fresh!

Another recipe I love to throw in my Ball® mason jar is scrambled eggs and turkey sausage. It’s so easy to throw together and it’s so delicious. You can add so many other ingredients to this to spice it up too. Like, mushrooms, sweet potatoes, or peppers! Even though the jars look compact, you can really pack a lot of nutrients into one!

A great Whole30® lunch idea is a baked potato soup! Did you know that white potatoes are officially apart of the Whole30® program – yaaaas! So comforting in this season! For this lunch recipe, I used onion, chopped garlic, and cubed potatoes. Then I added 4 cups of bone broth to the pan and simmered this for 15 minutes. Mix in almond milk and coconut cream and stir all of this together. I pureed this all together and mmmmm it was SOOO delicious!

Another go-to recipe I love to throw in the Ball® mason jars is a white chicken chili! This is SO delicious and so easy to take on the go or simply just to my office while I finish up work! What I love about the Ball® jars is that they make it so simple to meal prep. I can stock up on chicken chili by filling up a ton of jars for the week.

Since being on the Whole30® program, I’ve felt so amazing and I am already so proud of my accomplishments! I really think this program leads to great healthy habits and a lot of new recipe ideas! I don’t like to use a scale, but I love seeing benefits of certain habits that are not related to a weight or number. I definitely have more energy, I’m sleeping better, my hair feels awesome, I’m handling stress better, I can lift heavier weights, and I love that I can share these fun healthy recipes with my family.

I wanted to share this awesome contest with you! Spin To Win for some great prizes like Ball® products (4oz jars with plastic lids, pour-and-measure storage cups), a Whole30® cookbook, a $25 Althelta gift card, or a $10 Visa gift card to be used at retailers to pick up Ball® products! ENTER HERE
