What is the 90 Minute Baby Sleep Program?
This book offers a kinder, gentler, all-natural method to get your baby to sleep! It is written by Dr. Polly Moore and it helps babies nap longer and more often to allow your baby to get the sleep he or she needs!
What is different?
This book is different from a lot of the baby sleep books I’ve read. Basically, you put your baby down for a nap every 90 minutes. So when they wake up- set the timer- and 90 minutes later put them down for another nap. In the book Dr. Moore talks about the N.A.P.S. plan! Note the time of your baby’s last waking, Add 90 minutes, Play, Soothe your sleepy baby. It’s very simple and works great!
The Good?
At first when I read it, I thought it was crazy to put Gracie down for a nap 90 minutes after she wakes up. That didn’t seem like long enough awake time. However, the first week I tried it, I instantly knew it was perfect for us. Once I started writing down the times Gracie would wake up, I noticed that she really did display tired signs 90 minutes later. It honestly is like clock work! I love having a schedule that is not rigid. This sleep program allows you to have a general schedule. Gracie follows the NAPS plan but does not necessarily follow a certain time schedule. Somedays her naps are short, but we still play after every nap. It allows Gracie to know what comes next in the day.
After starting this program with Gracie, I have found that she sleeps longer, better, and goes to sleep happier. If you find that sweet 90 minute spot, it is actually easier to put her to sleep. She doesn’t get overtired and always feels well rested when she wakes up!
The Bad?
Dr. Moore recommends that you are home for your baby’s naps. This can be a challenge because if I am putting Gracie down for a nap every 90 minutes, that only gives me an hour and a half to run an errand. However, I have noticed that it is much easier to put Gracie down for a nap at home. She falls asleep way faster and without a fight. If we are out, it does take longer for her to fall asleep and she does not stay asleep for long.
Best for?
Babies ages two weeks through one year :D. I think it especially works great for the first three months. Once babies are 4+ months, they tend to skip one of their sleep cycles. Meaning instead of putting baby down every 90 minutes, they may go 3 hours in between naps.
This book is perfect if your baby is a catnapper. Dr. Moore gives lots of tips for babies that seem to have a hard time staying asleep. It’s also great if you want a gentle way to encourage sleep. Dr. Moore doesn’t really believe in “cry it out”. Although she does have a little section in the book on it.
Where?
I bought mine on amazon! I’m sure you can get it at any bookstore. I do not think there is an ibooks version of it.
Overall?
I love this book! I’ve read about four baby sleep books, and this one is by far my favorite! Gracie follows this program to a T. It has made our life easier and naps smoother.
